The Next Challenge

I’ve set a new challenge for myself.

For the last year and a bit, I’ve been working at a software startup in stealth mode. The thing is, it’s a good product with a promising future, but for all the attempts of the management team (including myself), it’s not ready for market yet.

After a difficult time working through very conflicting thoughts, I’ve made the decision to seek not just a new project, but to also take the chance to go for a whole new experience.

See, I moved to Sydney from Melbourne over ten years ago. At the time, I thought I was only going to stay for a couple years, five max, before moving somewhere bigger than Australia.*

It’s about time I paid attention to that wanderlust.

So, I’ve packed up my house and headed off. I’m going to be travelling for the next period, taking in parts of the world I’ve not yet experienced, talking to founders and entrepreneurs, and generally getting a sense of what’s out there.

The goal is to eventually find a place and company I want to be part of. I think it’s a pretty cool challenge, no?

* Don’t get me wrong – Australia punches above its weight in many ways, but it’s still a small country with a population of twenty-one million people. That’s not going to change any time soon.
